The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Sunday awarded SZABIST University the highest rank under an assessment released by its Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), a body working to monitor the standard of higher education in Pakistan.
Professors and educational experts believe that this mechanism of ranking introduced by HEC would trigger a healthy competition among both the public and private sector universities as they would strive to outclass each other and this would drastically boost the quality of higher education in the country.
According to official sources in SZABIST, QAA ranked
SZABIST in category “W” as the Quality Enhancement Cell of the university met 90 percent of the quality benchmarks in terms of research, faculty development, industry-academia linkages, academic freedom, ensuring standardised syllabi across all sections of a course, streamlining processes across campuses according to international standards and ensuring compliance of HEC guidelines.
HEC has developed a Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) in different public and private sector universities which collaborate with the commission in terms of monitoring and evaluation of the broad range of parameters set by HEC to gauge the development or decline of the standard of higher education in their respective institutions.
All these Quality Enhancement Cells are regulated and facilitated by the Quality Assurance Agency established at HEC according to provisions under the Ordinance of HEC 2002, Section 10 (e).
These cells also work to foster Institutional Effectiveness
(IE) to support research, planning, policy formation, streamlining processes, decision making and critical academic initiatives of strategic importance in the institutes.
It is also QEC’s duty to provide an absolutely unbiased judgment to HEC about their institution’s students, faculty, staff, curriculum, course offerings, and learning outcomes.
“SZABIST University is very delighted for being ranked highest by the QAA assessment and has attributed this academic success to the vigorous and persistent efforts of its management and faculty members”, official said.
Good News: You are ranked No. 1
Bad News: It is by HEC (meaning it ain't worth a d@mn)
😀
No wonder that The Chairman of HEC Dr Javaid Leghari is the same person who had established ZABIST during the tenure of Benazir Bhutto between 1993-96.
Where do others stand in the line by the way/
Who no official statement from HEC has been taken into line for this article ?
it truly reflects the poor state of journalism in our country.
What about NUST, NED & other universities?? :O
sab maya hai
Yeah Alhamdullillah Proud SZABISTIAN,
Come to SZABIST take a single course and you will know how things are taught in here.
been a year studying here..highly dissapointed and i still consider my high school way better!
really??? I am willing to take admission in SZABIST.. should I come?
Come to SZABIST (Media Sciences Department) and you will know how the faculty asks you to spend money from your own pocket and get paid later on.
o wow, they want u to experience entrepreneurship too! thats …great!
I don't see any official statement coming from HEC but still its good for us 🙂
Bhai ne bola highest hai… toh highest hai
Yes come to SZABIST and attend ZAB Media Festival where you will get to see how the faculty and the coordinators order you as if they own you. Moreover, we practice freedom of speech here in true respect. You dare to say anything against them or even give them a suggestion, they will fail you in their course.
With all due respect to HEC, but SZABIST does not deserve to be in any ranking
Cheers
SZABIST’s victim
chup ker Iqra walay :p
What a Joke ! I am from SZABIST Karachi and i have visited many universities including LUMS and GIKI. Honestly, SZABIST does not deserve any such so-called award or recognition. Forget about the faculty and students because due to locality i.e. Clifton, many students/faculty prefer to come there. However, as far as Classes+Campus+Library+Labs+Canteen+Sports facilities+Common room+Parking+Washrooms+Security+cleanliness are concerned all are below standards.
SZABIST one and only aim is to make profit. The Admin generally dont care about quality. One a lighter note, top university dont care about ranking.

Current SZABIST Student
bas ker day
Dear Mr. Jealous,
We didn't say anything wrong about LUMS, NUST and etc (those are also part of our education system and we are really proud of it). The thing is SZABIST doesn't limit it self to Karachi, its talking about the overall quality including all the campuses. So better understand the article first then share your divine thoughts.
Do you have any idea how many SZABIST graduates are getting admission into top universities, please its my humble request do research about it.
Regards,
Contrast
Dear so-called Contrast,
It is submitted that, i have full knowledge and information what you are trying to articulate here. However, as far as the problems (which i have pointed out) are concerned are not minor one. IF HEC has done any analysis and didn't take into account those problems then their survey is incorrect and vague.
I am sure when the next government comes in power( not of PPP) then SZABIST so-called ranking will decrease and people come to know about their real socalled quality education.
Dear Mr. Jealous,
I will never imagine to degrade any other university, infact was happy to hear Iqra university catching up with a lead. You should take your measurement tool on a macro level and check which part of the world are you talking about. If you live in Pakistan then you need to expect such draw backs and apply it to every university which are operational. People like you should jump and die into a pail of water before getting into jealousy mode. Keep politics and education centers separate from now on. There is no such affiliation of Khunjjar Zardari in SZABIST. And to add into your knowledge, Oxford University (maybe you have hear about it) set the foundation of SZABIST in 1995 when BB was alive.
So please keep your biasness to your very self and start encouraging it rather then finding flaws. As far as I know, education at SZABIST is pretty good like any other top university in Pakistan.
Regards,
Contrast
Highest…Highest hota hai…wo asli ho ya…
Call me a devil, but we all know where it is coming from. Mr Leghari, the current chief of HEC, was once a part of SZABIST. The current government is of PPP. Once again, SZABIST has to benefit from the brand name "Bhutto".
Exactly Saad Durrani! This is what I was looking for in the comments section!
Dear Saad Durrani,
Your allegation are some what wrong my dear. Now PPP government is all gone we have care taker government for your kind information. During the PPP tenure SZABIST was ranked way below any medium size university in Pakistan if you take the previous data. Coming to Dr Javeed Raja Leghari, he is the most honest person no doubt about it that he was chairing a dean's seat at SZABIST but I don't think so his favoritism may have effected the rankings.
Rather then pointing fingers, please support the education system whether it be Iqra University, SZABIST, IoBM, IBA, LUMS, KASBS, NAMAL and so on.
Regards
Contrast
And who are we joking when it is being said, "Now PPP government is all gone we have care taker government for your kind information."
Let's take reality for a run, the whole process takes months, and correct if I am not wrong but this caretaker setup started putting its feet since last Thursday (if I were to be very generous). Affiliations matter in this country. What I am complaining is about lesser transparency?
Spot on!
This is not an hec ranking but categorization of universities based on point scores by quality assurance dept and there are more than 15 universities in this category including cbm iqra university etc
The headline of this news is misleading
I am a student at SZABIST and I laugh at this news. Teachers are rubbish. Most of them are self-professed 'first timers' who are learning the course they are teaching just as much as we, the students are. It reflects in their lectures. There is no oversight. Professors do as they please. Get on their wrong side? They will fail you even if you were doing remarkably well before the final paper. Ask for a recount of the final paper? They will tell you that's not allowed even though you are allowed to check mid-terms. The campus is a mess. The place is falling apart (Clifton 90, anyone seen it lately?) I have no idea what the HEC is playing at.. this school is garbage.
Okay so i just got admission after doing my two year BCOM in MBA so should i join or NOT?
Honest advice plz? Should i go to CBM INSTEAD?
yes! i'm studying at szabist..the only thing good thing about it is the location if you live in defence or clifton..otherwise please don't go!
the crowd is getting messier every year and the administration is terrible
you get a class cancelled..u get a message when you reach your university often.
You need to find out what is you printing bill(they'll tell you when you'll be about to graduate and won't let you graduate if you don't pay) and there is even an interest on it.
If you talk to the general staff, it's like they are doing a favor to you, really rude.
2nd Semester i walk in a class, there's a teacher standing introducing himself and telling us he's here to teach for the first time, even got several lessons absolutely wrong, students had to prove he's wrong through diagrams.
Some old teachers are good, but you'll get them if you're lucky or else good luck.
Impressed by hec rankings I selected szabist over cbm last year..but i realized my mistake in my first semester and transferred to cbm.
It is a good news , but ranking based on Quality Assurance Criteria does not necessarily mean that it has maintained the highest standards of education ( in teaching and research).
i got admission in MSPM in szabist ….let's c..i think for getting job in future this uni is nt bad
