KP caretaker CM sworn in

Justice (r) Tariq Pervez Khan on Wednesday took oath as the caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Governor Engineer Shaukatullah Khan administered the oath to Khan at a well attended ceremony.

Beside others, more than a dozen outgoing provincial ministers, speaker of provincial assembly Kiramat Ullah Khan Chagharmati, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan, Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastgir Khan, Inspector General Police Akbar Khan Hoti and a number of high-ranking officials attended the ceremony.

However, both leader of the house in outgoing assembly Amir Haider Khan Hoti and leader of opposition Akram Khan Durrani did not turn up for the ceremony.

Other attendees included Afrasiab Khattak, Anwar Saifullah Khan, Sahibzada Sabir Shah, Maulana Amanullah Haqqani, Mian Muneer Orakzai and Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour. Peshawar based United States, Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan Consul Generals also attended the ceremony.

Talking to reporters after being administered the oath Khan said ensuring free and transparent polls in a peaceful atmosphere would be his top priority.

He said he would maintain his neutral and non-political status in accordance with the aspiration of the people.
