Ebad dissolves Sindh Assembly

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Tuesday dissolved the provincial assembly on an advice by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah.

The governor signed a summary to this effect on Tuesday night.

Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah had sent the governor a formal request for the assembly’s dissolution.

Sources said the chief minister had already directed the ministers, advisers, special assistants, MPAs and others to surrender official vehicles, and vacate official residences.

The ruling Pakistan People’s Party and opposition party Muttahida Quami Movement also agreed on the name of Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi for appointment as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh.

The major chunk of the provincial cabinet is likely to come from the PPP and MQM.

According to sources, the PPP had put forward nine names for the cabinet, including Zia Lanjar, Agha Wasi Durrani, Fauzia Jaffery, Fazlur Rehman, former corps Commander General (r) Ehsan, Dr Amjad Memon, Shujaat Ali Jakhrani, Umar Abbas Jilani and Fida Hussain.

The MQM’s Barrister Habibur Rehman, Shujaat Ali Baig, Nadirah Punjwani and Advocate Qazi Khalid are also expected to be in the caretaker setup in Sindh.

The caretaker dispensation will also include Pir Riyaz Gul from the Awami National Party and Shahid Ghouri from the Sunni Tehreek.
