Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) suspended peace talks with the Pakistani government, claiming that authorities are “not serious” with the peace initiative, TTP spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan said on Monday.
Talking to a private TV channel, Ehsan said the militant organisation had suspended talks with authorities and claimed that the army and government were not serious in conducting peace dialogue.
Earlier last month, the Pakistani Taliban, which has waged war against the state since 2007, had announced willingness for conditional peace talks with the country’s top three politicians as guarantors.
Ehsan asked citizens to avoid participation in the “un-Islamic democratic system which only serves the interests of infidels and enemies of Islam”.
Ehsan said the TTP specifically advises the public to stay away from gatherings of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP).
