Pakistan’s hero of 1965 war Muhammad Mahmood Alam popularly known as M M Alam on Monday passed away in Karachi after a protracted illness. He was 78.

He had been admitted to the Pakistan Naval hospital Shifa in Karachi, for the treatment of respiratory disease.

Air commodore MM Alam was a retired Pakistani fighter pilot. He had shot down nine Indian air force planes in one single mission of air-to-air combat – a rare feat in air battle. Five of them were downed in less than a minute.

He was a recipient of Sitara-e-Jurrat (“The star of courage”) for his achievements during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and establishing a world record of shooting down warplanes.

He was born on July 6, 1935 in Calcutta, British India. He was popularly known as “M.M. Alam” and nicknamed little dragon.

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) spokesman said that Air commodore (retd) Muhammad Mahmud Alam passed away in Karachi on Monday morning after a prolonged illness.

  1. May Almighty bless the soul of this pious hero, who fought like a true warrior. He wasamongst the rare breed of our valiant soldiers, who gave their all when duty called, and was never involved in the greed for real estate, after which those who followed him are blindly and shamefully obsessed with.

  6. May he be blessed. He was the greatest war hero, and I'm proud to have known him personally.
Answer to the question as to why he was passed over for further promotion:
He whistle-blew corruption on purchase of radar system by the air chief Anwer Shamim during Ziaul-Haq time, which back-fired and Zia double-crossed Alam and supported the air chief and Alam got canned. A great injustice indeed.

  7. MM Alam was a rare pakistani who sacrificed his everything to pakistan. he performed his duty to the highest level of efficiency valour and caourage. He will be remembered by the pakistanis for long long time to come, He will also be remembered by the Indians in their bad dreams. we love him we salute to him for his services. He lived like a hero he died lke a hero.
