The flyover and underpass constructed at Pirwadahi Morr by National Logistics Cell (NLC) has been constructed by the country’s premier logistics and construction company in record time.
“The bridge will be inaugurated and opened for general public shortly. It will save fuel consumption by Rs 219 million annually,” said a press release.
The project was constructed by NLC in a period of less than five months in face of monumental challenges like around the clock flow of heavy vehicular traffic and shifting of utility services like main water supply, telephone, gas and high tension electricity lines, while ensuring the highest possible standards of works.
The significant feature of the project was the construction of a monolith deck slab measuring 378 meters without any expansion or construction which was the first of its kind in Pakistan.
The flyover would facilitate hundreds of thousands of commuters coming to and going out of Rawalpindi-Islamabad and the residents of several densely populated localities of the twin cities daily. The length of the underpass was 436 meters and had two lanes, while the three lanes bridge was 380 meters long. A length of ramps ranged from 95 to 96 meters.
Vertical clearance at the intersection is 5.6 meters. Apart from providing hassle free access, the flyover and underpass would reduce fuel consumption by 370 gallon per peak hour which is estimated at around Rs 150,000 per peak hour or Rs 219 million per year.
The NLC has emerged as a trend setter of speedy construction of superior quality structures unparalleled in the construction history of the country.
It merits mentioning here that NLC had recently constructed Chandni Chowk flyover in just 127 days and another flyover at 6th Road Junction on the Murree road in a record time of 100 days.
The NLC was presently undertaking construction works on Mureer Chowk tunnel project in Rawalpindi and several other mega development works worth billions of rupees across Pakistan.
