Over half-a-dozen Shiv Sina members disrupted the Sindhi Sufi Music Festival at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi on Saturday, protesting against the participation of Pakistani singers in the wake of the recent terror attack at a CRPF camp in Srinagar.
Pakistani folk and Sufi singer Sanam Marvi was performing on the open lawns at Mati Ghar around 8 30 pm when the Sena workers barged into the premises despite police presence.
“The protesters got on to the stage and even before the audience and the artists could realise what was happening, they took hold of the mike and started raising slogans against Pakistan. The protesters announced that no Pakistani singer would be allowed to perform at the festival. The commotion lasted a few minutes before the organisers managed to push the protesters away from the stage and handed them over to the police,” said an eyewitness.
Protesters detained: Over two dozen Sainiks, including women, had earlier staged a protest outside the venue around 5.30 p.m., raising slogans. The protesters were, however, detained by the police and taken away in a Delhi Transport Corporation bus.
“As the festival is being held on the open lawns and entry is without invitation, it is easy for anyone to walk inside posing as audience and disrupt the show. Still, we had deployed police personnel in adequate numbers. Those who took part in the earlier protest were detained and later let off,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S.B.S. Tyagi.
In a press statement, the Sena secretary said Pakistan was stabbing the country in the back, but the Indian government was reaching out to them with proposals of love and peace. He said no Pakistani singer or player would be allowed on Indian soil until Pakistan stopped abetting terrorism.
The two-day festival hosts Sufi singers from India and Pakistan displaying their shared heritage of Sindhi Sufism.

  1. These are crack elements of indian society. They have their point but just do not know that they are attacking the secular forces of pakistan who are as much against extremism in pakistan as they are.

  2. 'Civility' and India seem not to go together… Sanam Marvi is not an isolated case… They did the same with the pakistan women's cricket team.. and many other times… if you peopel, meaning indians, have no 'class' or at least can't show it… don't hold tournaments and fesivals. I am sure Sanam did not show up there 'uninvited'… If you can not be a good host, then don't host anything. … btw, now you people have gangraped a swiss woman?…. you hindus are the scum of this earth …

  3. I do wish our criminals were mindful of foreigners & rape only local women & not foreigners.I met a few Srilankan cricket players who were so happy about the hospitality extended to them in Lahore where they were shot & injured & had to fly back from that country from there itself. Our opponents of Pakstan have not reached that stage & hope never will .May be we need to train them in pakistan.Possible that cricket team were going to pakistan uninvited,I do not know. But at present no team of any country dares to go even after 1000 invitations. So ignorant of them of excellent hopitality of pakistan.

  4. ]Why is that Indian hand is always there whether its Baluchistan issue or srilankan team attack or our water issue . Its seems that India has a concerted effort in defaming and trying to confine Pakistan . Mr maunder , have the courage and see the truth from another perspective if you really try to be liberal , its a strong bullet to bite and that takes strong character . Truth without prejudice would be the only panacea , otherwise we will be always at each other throats. The fate of more than billion people of sub-continent was ,is and will be dependent on truth realization i.e Give the people their rights and don't blurr their vision with petty lies.

    • May be there was indian hand,I can not know. The pakistan security police never got punishment for any accused & I think a few were arrested but released on bail. Are security forces of pakistan agents of RAW that they never book an accused &give him the punishment..The incidence at Lahore happened in full public view & i saw it on line as live telecast. Was it staged by security forces of pakistan along with India.?Same is case of Balochistan & no specific accusation has bee brought against India there.
I am lover of pakistan musicians & sanam Marvi is among my favorites.I strongly condemne these instances but by pakistan standards this was very mild.I am glad that people like Ghulam Ali khan,Rahat ,playback singer Ataf islam,.Abida Parveen etc are working here regularly & we love them.I recently attended concert of Arif Lohar & we all loved him & he got a full house applause for about 3 hours.

  5. Shiv Sena activists should protest against Indian Government for giving Visa to Sanam Marvi. When visa has been granted then they should not protest against the Marvi. Marvi is doing for which she has Indian Visa. Pakistani need to show some Gairat. Hockey team for women was kind placed in prison and when same Pakistani Hockey team reached Pakistan, they again wanted to go India. What a shame. All Pakistan say it is shameful then line up to get India's visa. Why are that mota singer and singer actor in India. All Pakistan should return home in protest. What shameful and beGairat are these Pakistanis.

  6. This rhetoric against each other will not solve the problems. Each country has lots of sane elements even in majority. They should come out and guide the misguided people not to loath each other we are neighbour.beave like good neighbours
