At least seven men have raped a 39-year-old Swiss woman camping with her husband in an Indian forest, police say, the latest victim of sexual violence against women in the South Asian nation.
The Swiss woman and her husband were touring the state by bicycle and were camping overnight in the forest inimpoverished Madhya Pradeshstate, when at least seven men attacked the couple on Friday night, sexually assaulting the woman and robbing the pair.
The attackers “tied up the man and raped the woman in his presence”, local police official SM Afzal said, adding that they stole 10,000 rupees ($185) and a mobile phone from the woman. The couple were on their way to the tourist destination of Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal monument, in northern India when they stopped to camp for the night near a village.
“The victims, who belong to Switzerland, put up a tent to stay overnight,” when the attack occurred, Afzal said. Indian media reports said the men were wielding sticks when they attacked the couple.
After the attack, the victim was admitted to hospital in Gwalior city, local police official MS Dhodee said. She was conscious on Saturday and speaking to authorities. No other details of her condition were known.
Dhodee said that police were still investigating the case but added that a “rape case has been registered against seven unidentified people”.
Local police superintendent CS Solanki said police were questioning 13 men in connection with the attack.
Record rape cases: The attack on Friday night comes three months after a 23-year-old physiotherapy student was gang-raped and beaten in a moving bus and thrown bleeding on to the street in a case that sparked outrage in the country.
She died later in hospital in Singapore. After the student was raped and beaten in Delhi last December, millions of Indians took to the streets demanding the death penalty for her attackers and official action to reduce the number of assaults on women.
Four men and a juvenile are on trial for that attack. A sixth defendant, who police say was the ringleader, was found dead in his cell on Monday. One woman is raped every 20 minutes in India, according to the National Crime Records Bureau. But police estimate only four out of 10 rapes are reported, largely due to victims’ fear of being shamed by their families and communities.

You are right on the point …

As a nation, India is a 'fail' for not being able to cure this long standing problem …
      .
The blame goes to the top echelon of the national leadership …

  1. India is a nation of rapists. It's actually the hindu religion that encourages rape. There are no rights for women in hinduism. Due to this the entire nation has become a pervert.

    • Rape is not even a crime in Pakistan. If you remember Mukhatara Mai's rape was ordered by village elders in a court and today Mukhatara Mai is a subject of ridicule, not sympathy, in Pakistani media and entertainment industry. As a result no rape is reported. Situation is much worse in Pakistan as it is just called "Jiaditi" and even young boys are also raped in medressahs. Most of women when they are childern are abused by family members in Pakistan so they grow up thinkning it is OK…it is just some 'Jiaditi' and not a serious crime.
Permission to keep 4 wives makes clear that having four bed partners.
In India there is awareness and progress so women have started reporting and rape victims get sympathy, In Pakistan cases are not reported as women themselves be blamed and than ridiculed by all and sundry.

    • y do u sick people always bring in religion……no doubt why minorities are suffering in ur nation…………muslims are biggest rapists….they dont even let women pray and mullahs get attracted by female's fet..:D

      • in replay to your comment "no doubt why minorities are suffering in ur nation" meaning Pakistan, So you mean to say Muslims in India are not living as a second class citizen, while Indian governments like always concentrate on Hindu areas and deprive Muslim areas from any sort of development whether it's in health or education on top of that blame Muslims for their situation by saying why Muslims have to many kids, don't try to deny because I have worked with Indian Muslims and Hindus for over ten years and I have heard both side.

  2. The crimes in India are increasing ,because there is no hard punishment .The trial takes too much time. The political people come to help sometimes the wrong persons. Justice delayed is justice denied.Quick decision and sever punishment can control crimes up to some extent .There should be time frame for the judges to decide every criminal case.Sometimes cases are lingering on 5 to 20 years in the courts. So what justice can we expect ?
