The National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has jacked up power tariff by Rs 1.55 per unit.

The power distribution companies had filed an application with NEPRA seeking enhancement in power tariff.

They had taken the plea that power was generated through diesel at the rate of Rs 21 per unit during the month of January, Rs 16 per unit through furnace oil and Rs 5 per unit through gas. This way a sum of Rs 63 billion were incurred on power generation in January.

The cost of line losses at the rate of 27 paisas per unit and the amount of bonus disbursed among the employees of the companies have also been made part of the tariff.

The NEPRA heard the petition and approved raise to the tune of Rs 1.55 per unit in the power tariff.

Increase in tariff has been approved in fuel adjustment surcharges for the month of January.

Domestic consumers consuming electricity up to 50 units and KESC consumers will remain exempted from this upward revised tariff.
