Senior judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Najamul Hassan has advised the judges to only have fear of Almighty Allah in their mind and not someone else’s while deciding cases. Allah has chosen us for this noble task and we will be answerable to Him on the Day of Judgment, the justice said.
Justice Najam was speaking at the conclusion ceremony of a capacity building course at the Punjab Judicial Academy. Honorary consultant of the Academy Justice (r) Khalilur Rehman Khan was also present on the occasion.
Justice Najam reminded the participants that they were not ordinary servants. Their job was a mission and it should be accomplished wholeheartedly and painstakingly. He said that judgments rendered by the district judiciary were very important so they should do their duty with utmost care. Justice Sheikh explained that if holding of identification parade or confessional statements were not recorded after going through due process of law, the accused could easily escape punishment. Therefore judicial officers were required to work within the framework of law and abide by all procedural technicalities. The judge said that the LHC judges have curtailed backlog of cases despite being less in number as compared to the sanctioned strength, and district judiciary should follow suit with more work in this regard.
He also appreciated the cooperation of the advocates due to which many districts have achieved zero pendency of old cases i.e. filed before 2008, while other districts have also reduced the number of pending cases to a great extent.
Justice Najam asked the judges to develop a habit of working even in difficult environment and to bring a change in their attitude to satisfy the aggrieved people with qualitative judgments. Nobody would point a finger at your integrity if cases were decided on merit, he concluded.
A representative of participants appreciated the LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial for launching such a beneficial course. Justice (r) Tanvir Ahmed Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Later Justice Najam gave away certificates to civil Judges Bushra Anwar, Nighat Sultana, Zunaira Zufar, Muhammad Zakriya, Rana Aneel Arshad, Sarwar Ali, Hasan Iqbal, Sayyad Shuja Ali Haider, Muhammad Amjad Hafeez, Mian Muhammad Kamran Younis, Muhammad Adeel Anwar, Muhammad Ajmal, Syed Faz-ul-Hassan Shah, Tanveer Hussain, Hamid Ali Tulla, Humayun Pervaiz, Ahmed Nadeem Khan, Khalid Mahmood, Ashfaq Ahmad, Faheemul Hassan Shah, Ifran Rafiq, Muhammad Aamir Javed, Rana Muhammad Jafar and Ishtiaq Ahmad.
