FACES Pakistan, in collaboration with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), on Friday begun training the last batch of the Housekeeping Training Programme, at the end of which 1000 marginalised mixed religious women, selected from five different areas of the city would have received professional guidance from experts on basic housekeeping skills.
So far, about 900 women have been trained, many of whom are working at different places such as households and schools.
The aim of the training project was to enable these women from less privileged economic backgrounds to work as household maids with a basic skill set that would make it easier for them to seek and accomplish jobs.
Along with the training, awareness was also provided about labour laws and their rights and responsibilities as workers. After successful completion of training, certificates were awarded and women were placed on jobs by FACES Pakistan so as to ensure that their rights were protected.
FACES Pakistan President Javaid William said that this training programme had given these women self-confidence.
“We are working to empower women without discrimination so that they can fully play their role in the society and feel like respected workers,” he said.
