KARACHI – The sacked lower grade employees of the Sindh Education Department, on a hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club, will march to the Sindh Assembly building today to record their protest.
All Sindh Education Department Lower Staff Association (ASEDLSA) President Darya Khan Jamali told Pakistan Today that the Arbab Rahim-led government had appointed them by allowing a relaxation in age limit on the premise that no appointments were made in the Education Department for the last decade.
The appointees included a man in his early 50s as well, Jamali said. While the present government had made promises of turning the services of all contractual employees permanent, it is not ready to appoint those who are “over-age,” Jamali said, adding that no guarantees were given to the protesting employees over whether they will be employed once the process of advertisement starts.
However, a spokesman for Sindh Senior Minister Pir Mazharul Haq termed the protest of the sacked employee as a conspiracy against the Pakistan People’s Party government. He said some anti-government elements were fuelling the protest by providing them with support to continue their protest, but argued that the government will break the law at any cost.
