Finance Minister Senator Saleem H Mandviwalla said on Monday that the present democratic government was committed to promote higher education in the country.
“HEC has always enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy full patronage and support of the government for continued provision of quality higher education to the nation. No stone will be left unturned to ensure progress in the field of higher education,” he said.
He further stated that the government was concerned about the issue of shortage of funds to universities.
The finance minister expressed these views during a meeting with Higher Education Commission Chairman who had called on him to discuss various issues relating to HEC, including its financial matters.
Senator Saleem H Manviwalla said all the necessary funds needed to overcome the current financial problems being faced by various universities would be immediately released to HEC.
Chairman of HEC thanked the finance minister for his support for promotion of higher education in the country.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the finance minister for immediate release of funds required by the HEC for onward provision to universities across the country.
Sources said that the Finance Ministry released Rs 9 billion immediately to meet the urgent need of the universities.
