Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim on Monday directed radio broadcasters to play a pivotal role during upcoming elections.

Talking to Radio Pakistan Director General Murtaza Solangi, the CEC highlighted the need of voters’ education before elections and urged the radio stations to provide detailed information to voters about the candidates and what they stand for.

He said he would call a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the strategy to make good use of the public and private radio stations in this regard.

Solangi assured the CEC that as a public broadcaster with the largest network of the country, Radio Pakistan would play a leading role to give equal opportunity to all contestants in the upcoming elections.

He assured Ebrahim that his organisation would work with over a 100 private radio stations during elections as it worked with them during military offensive in Malakand and the floods of 2010 and 2011.
