US warning Pak on IP gas project: State Department

The United States (US) has once again warned Pakistan that Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline deal would raise serious concerns under the Iran Sanctions Act.
Replying to question during briefing on Friday, Acting Deputy Spokesperson Patrick Ventrell said Washington has made the issue of sanctions absolutely clear to Pakistan.
Ventrell said the US was closely watching the development.
He said as current member of the IAEA Board of Governors and the UN Security Council, Pakistan has an obligation to join multilateral efforts to convince Iran to adhere to international nuclear obligations.
Asked what would be the sanctions if Pakistan goes ahead, he said the action would be under Iran Sanctions Act and refused to go into the specifics.
As regard response from Pakistan, the spokesman said they continue to discuss Pakistan’s energy needs, especially through the bilateral mission in Islamabad.
“It’s something we’re working with our Pakistani counterparts on. They know our position, and we’ll continue to discuss this with our Pakistani counterparts”.
