The top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) held a meeting with Bahawalpur Awami National Party (BANP) chief Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi on Saturday, and agreed to form an electoral alliance.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Tariq Bashir Cheema were present in the meeting held at Shujaat’s residence here.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Shujaat said that both the parties had agreed to form the electoral alliance in the next general elections at the level of Bahawalpur Division in three districts. He said that a two-member committee had been formed to evolve future line of action. The committee includes Tariq Bashir Cheema from the PML-Q and Malik Farooq Azam from the BANP.
In response to a question about the unification of various factions of the PML, he said that Pir Pagara and his father had also been making efforts in this regard, but with general elections approaching, every party had to make its own preparations. He added that alliance with the PML-N was now impossible.
He said that changes in the political arena would come after the dissolution of assemblies, and many new alliances would be formed.
Elahi said that “Nawab Sahib” had said that after meeting with Shujaat, electoral alliance between the two parties would be finalised.
Replying to a question, Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi said that the PML-Q was in favour of making the Bahawalpur province, and that Elahi had supported the demand in the assembly too.
