The intra-party elections of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have been challenged in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The applicants – Senator Safdar Abbasi and Nasir Ali Shah – have made Law Minister Farooq H Naek, who performed the duty of election commissioner in the intra-party polls, as respondent in their application. The challengers pleaded that the PPP had held intra-party election only to complete the formality, adding that the elections were based on sheer mala fide intent and “the doctrine of give and take”. They further stated that nothing had been informed about voters’ list or about the election schedule ahead of the intra-party polls. They requested the ECP to declare the elections null and void, besides ordering for fresh intra-party elections.

According to details, Awan submitted his resignation letter to the speaker, which had not as yet been accepted. Awan was elected from constituency 107 in Hafizabad. According to reports, he has not shown an interest in joining any party as yet.
