The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) Karachi registry issued a notice to Owais “Tappi” Muzaffar on Thursday to appear before the court at the coming hearing of the Karachi law and order case, Express News reported.
Owais “Tappi” was believed to be a major player in the Lyari gang wars and was also considered one of the closest aides of President Asif Zardari.
The petition filed by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi stated that Owais Tappi had established a stronghold in Karachi due to the influence he enjoyed with a senior member of the Federal Board of Revenue.
On this Justice Sarmad Usmani expressed his frustration by saying, “Who is this Tappi and why has no one filed an FIR against him yet?”
According to Akhtar Naqvi’s petition, Owais Tappi, revenue officer Riaz Mohammed, Hammad Chachar and others were involved in major corruption and in the process had incurred losses worth billions of rupees on the national exchequer. Furthermore, the above mentioned people had illegally sold government lands to different parties.
The case is an extension of the suo motu notice taken by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary in 2011 when the situation in the metropolis had gone from bad to worse.
