The Supreme Court of Pakistan will resume hearing of a petition submitted by former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani against his disqualification on March 6.

A three-member bench of the apex led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would give ruling on the petition.

In April last year, a seven-member bench of the supreme court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa had awarded a symbolic punishment to the then prime minister Gilani. Later a three member bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chuadhry upheld the court’s earlier decision and Gilani was removed from office, making him the first ever chief executive to be removed on charges of “contempt of court”.

The ruling had not only stripped Gillani of premiership, but he was also disqualified from contesting as a Member of National Assembly for five years.

The former prime minister had filed an appeal on Feb 2 against the apex court’s ruling in the contempt case barring him from contesting elections and holding any public office for five years
