SIALKOT – A warm welcome was accorded to Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on her arrival at her native village Koobey Chak in Bajwat here on Sunday for the first time after getting the portfolio of federal minister for information and broadcasting.
She spent a busy day in Sialkot along with PPP leaders, AJK President Raja Zulqarnain and Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah. Raja Zulqarnain and Syed Mehdi Shah jointly inaugurated several development projects worth Rs 200 million in several Bajwat villages along with Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
They also inaugurated Sui gas supply projects in eight villages, including Talatpur, Rangpur Jattan, Chaprar and Koobey Chak of constituency NA 111-Bajwat. They also laid the foundation stone of Government Girls Degree College at village Koobay Chak, construction of several link roads and establishment of women vocational training institutes there.
They also inaugurated the project of construction of a mini-bridge over a seasonal nullah near village Salehpur. Earlier, the PPP leaders were brought to Bajwat in a big procession from Wazirabad through Sambrial, Saahowala and Uggoki through Sialkot Airport Road.
Big welcome banners and hoardings were also displayed along the roads, leading to the meeting venue by local PPP workers. Federal Information Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said Pakistan People’s Party would never resort to horse trading to get majority in the Punjab.
Addressing the participants of the reception given in her honour at Sambrial Morre by the management of Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) here on Sunday afternoon, She said PPP was the actual leading political party in Punjab as the challenges and duties had increased for it after separation from PML-N. She added PPP would face all the political challenges with the power of the masses. “Punjab is ours,” she claimed. She called PPP actual heirs of the Punjab.
Dr Firdous Ashiq said the country was facing various challenges and no single party could counter them. She added PPP did not believe in exploitation of people and, as the protector of the constitution, it would confront the PML-N if it acted against law and the constitution. She said political stability was vital for economic stability as well as welfare of the masses in the country.
“PML-N leader Nawaz Shairf’s recent announcement would harm economic stability in the country and add a lot to the miseries of the poor masses.
Our correspondent from Wazirabad adds: Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, accompanied by AJK President Raja Zulqarnain and Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, reached Wazirabad Bar Association. The PPP leaders were warmly received here by the party workers and lawyers.
Addressing the bar, the federal information minister said the day would come soon when the slogans of “Jiay Bhutto would reverberate all around CM’s house in Lahore. She asked the party workers to shun differences and strengthen the party. She vowed to solve the problems of the poor.
