The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected the reply filed by the director general (DG) of Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the IB Secret Funds case, and ordered him to file a new reply within 24 hours.

A three-member SC bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the case for hearing on Wednesday.

Informing the court about the details of the letter, Attorney General (IG) Irfan Qadir said the reply by the DGIB had been filed under the court’s orders.

The CJP remarked that the language used in the letter was insulting, adding that the DGIB had not signed the reply. He has neither solicited opinion from the law ministry nor it has any reference with regard to the ministry, he added.

The AG said, “If you say, then we can withdraw the reply and file a new one. However, this reply has been filed in consultation with the law ministry.”

The CJP observed, “This reply carries your signatures rather the DGIB’s. The reply should be filed under the DGIB’s signatures and then we will deal with him.”

The AG requested the court to allow him some time and then he would file the reply after obtaining new instructions. He also withdrew the reply filed in the court.

The court, while giving him another 24 hours, adjourned the hearing of the case until today.
