A memorandum of understanding was signed here on Wednesday between Hamdard University, Karachi, and Hunan University of China on the second day of Third Hamdard International Unani Medicine Conference on “Unani Medicine: Education and Research Issues and Challenges”, at Madinat al-Hikmah, Karachi, on Wednesday.
Under this MOU, both the universities will exchange research, curricula and students. Delegates from China, Japan, Iran, South Africa, Germany, Malaysia and different cities of Pakistan participated in the conference.
Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said Memorial Lecture was also held on the occasion.
While delivering lecture, Nusrat Nasrullah said even in worst circumstances when his life was in danger, Hakim Said did not leave his country and spent his whole life’s earning in Pakistan because he was a true Muslim and a Pakistani. He was the representative of Indo-Muslim culture and this Islamic culture was so dear to him that he brought up his only child, Sadia Rashid, according to the values of this culture. Sadia Rashid is a mirror in which one could see the vision and far-sightedness of Hakim Said as she, like an obedient daughter, is completing the works left by her father at the time of his martyrdom in October 1998.
Hakim Abdul Waheed, Hakim Rahat Nasim Sohdarvi, Hakim Syed Sabir Ali Shah and Hakim Basheer Bhervi also delivered lectures on Hakim Said and said he not only revived Tibb-i-Unani but also made it according to the modern requirements due to which the World Health Organisation recognised the Tibb-i-Unani as part of alternative medicine. Today the major population was looking towards the natural treatment because of the efforts of Hakim Said, they added.
In third scientific session of the second day of international conference, Prof Dr Seema Mumtaz presented her paper on the subject of ‘primary health care, what is missing’. She said the first thing is provision of good nutrition, clean water and less polluted environment and then comes community participation, mutual cooperation and principles of hygiene that should be adopted.
Ibne Sina Institute of Tibb President, South Africa, Prof Dr Rashid Hasan Bhika presented his paper on ‘Tibb-e-Unani in South Africa’.
