Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry denies Director General (DG) Intelligence Bureau (IB) Sardar Akhtar Hassan Gorchani’s reply, due to its unacceptable language, to the secret funds case of the IB as the reply used inappropriate language, on Wednesday.
To pander the political agenda of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Punjab, the PPP has allegedly withdrawn secrets funds worth Rs 270 million of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The DG IB was summoned in court on January 2 to explain the misuse of these funds. Following the statements of two former IB chiefs, the court decided that the funds had been withdrawn from the IB but its use did not go against the Punjab government.
Akhtar Gorchani, although backed by various legal experts to craft the response, failed to satisfy the Supreme Court (SC). The DG IB was ordered by the SC to explain the usage of these funds if they were used for any purpose other than overthrowing the Punjab government in 2009.
Gorchani’s reply was received in the SC on February 27. The attorney general submitted DG IB’s statement in the hearing but the court denied it on charges of there being unacceptable language in the reply.
The case was adjourned until February 28.
