After a two-day break, the Senate and the National Assembly will resume their session on Monday during which the constitutional amendment bill for the creation of Bahawalpur-Southern Punjab province, additional seats for the minorities and counter terrorism authority bill will be taken up.

On the demand of the members, the government is to make a statement in the two houses about handing over of Gwadar port to a Chinese company.

Another bill that is expected to generate a heated debate will be about the Defence Housing Authority. The bill could not be passed earlier from the National Assembly due to stiff opposition by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The opposition believes that through this bill, the government wanted to benefit a private party.

Meanwhile, the government is considering the passage of the new provinces amendment bill from the Senate on Tuesday. The ruling alliance has asked all its members to be present in the House.

Sources said that Law Minister Farooq H Naek contacted Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, who promised to support the amendment for new provinces.
