Lahore – Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will execute project of widening and improvement of Main Boulevard, New Garden Town from Kalma Chowk to the canal bridge through Y-junction, within three months, at a cost of Rs 309 million. This was decided in the governing body meeting of the LDA on Saturday.
The meeting was chaired by Lahore District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) and LDA Chairman Ahad Khan Cheema, and was attended by LDA Director General Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, LDA Additional Director General (Head Quarters) Hafiz Ihsan-U-Haq, TEPA Chief Engineer Saif Ur Rahman and representatives of the provincial and local government, housing, planning and development and finance departments, besides administrators of the nine constituent towns of the city.
The meeting was told that Main boulevard Garden Town was an important link connecting the housing schemes and educational institutions in the city, and owing to a traffic increase, present road structure needed improvement and capacity enhancement by widening the main carriageways and service roads.
As the commercial activities on this road generated traffic congestion with limited on-street parking facility, road widening and parking provision needed to be catered for, the meeting was told.
Salient features of the project included three-lane dual carriageway, widening of service roads to six meters, including hard shoulders for parking, landscaping and installation of street lights and traffic signals.
LDA’s governing body also directed the concerned officials for carrying out repair works of Model Town Link Road, which was generally choked owing to parking issues because a lot of commercial activity was taking place, attracting vehicular traffic.
The meeting also decided for taking up the matter of shifting of electric transformers from green belts with LESCO. The meeting also endorsed constitution of a committee by the senior members/members from Board of Revenue Punjab for assessment of the cost of land and compensation of structure. The committee will be headed by LDA additional director general (Housing) and other members will include Lahore executive district officer (Revenue), Lahore Ring Road director operation and LDA land acquisition collector.
