The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday sought record from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a bail application of Former Haj Director General Rao Shakeel Ahmed, the accused in the Haj corruption case.

The single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Muhammad Anwar Khan Kasi conducted the proceedings of bail plea of Rao Shakeel filed by his counsel Sh Ahsan-ud-Din.

During the course of the hearing, Sh Ahsan-ud-Din apprised the bench that the trial court had dismissed the bail plea of his client once again.

After hearing the arguments, Justice Kasi issued a notice to the FIA and sought a record until the next date of hearing.

It may be mentioned here that on January 31 IHC had directed the trial court to re-decide on the bail application of Rao Shakeel Ahmed within three days without any fear or favour.

A special court of Rawalpindi on Feburay 6 rejected the bail application of former Haj DG.

Special Judge Central (SJC) Iftikahar Ahmed Khan observed that the accused, Rao Shakeel, was not entitled for release on bail, after the prosecution informed him that the trial of the accused was at the final stage.

However, Rao Shakeel through his counsel, Amjad Pervez, applied for his release on bail under the principal of consistency.

The same court had earlier granted bail to former minister for religious affairs, Hamid Saeed Kazmi, who was also an accused in the Haj corruption case.

According to Rao Shakeel’s counsel under the law of consistency, after

Grant of bail to an accused, the court may accept the bail plea of the other accused involved in the same case.
