KARACHI – Taking notice of the two missing staffers of Malir district courts, Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Justice Mushir Alam on Friday ordered the law enforcement agencies to ensure their recovery by taking serious initiatives.
SHC Registrar Rasool Bux Memon told Pakistan Today that the chief justice had taken serious notice over the missing of clerk Agha Yasir and bailiff Shafqat Brohi of the Malir courts, adding that Alam has issued directives to the Malir district and session courts to take legal action for their recovery.
SSP investigations Niaz Khoso told Pakistan Today that he had sent a report to the Sindh inspector general of police over the alleged abduction of the court staffers and also sent a communique to the higher authorities of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) requesting them to take serious steps from their recovery.
Meanwhile, all legal proceedings remained suspended at Malir and city courts as a complete strike was observed by the city’s district judicial staff members. On the strike call from All Sindh District Staff Association, a boycott against court proceedings was observed in all five district courts, where the lawyers and staffers did not attend their offices.
They alleged that secret agencies had abducted the employees on Feb 22, without any reasons. The court employees had warned that if their colleagues were not released, they would boycott court proceedings across the province. They had also urged the office bearers of the all district bar associations of Sindh to join their protest.
Legal proceedings at the Malir courts were also suspended yesterday (Thursday). On the directions of the SHC chief justice, a meeting was held in the Malir district court to discuss the issue. The meeting was attended by Malir DG Kausar Ali Bukhari, Malir District Bar Association President Ejaz Bangash, General Secretary Asadullah Memon, Sindh Judicial Staff Association President Mohammad Rahimo, SSP Khoso and Malir SP Khalid Mustafa Korai among others
The representatives of lawyers and courts’ employees expressed their concerns over the abduction of the two men and demanded that the government and law enforcers take serious initiatives for their recovery. Accusing the intelligence agencies, they said that both staffers were abducted by state-run agencies without giving any reason and despite the passage of three days no report has been received about their whereabouts.
They also announced continuing their boycott of court proceedings across the district till the missing persons were recovered. On the occasion, SSP Khoso informed the participants that the police have already taken action in this regard and the two Malir court employees would be recovered very soon.
