The Supreme Court was informed on Monday that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has prepared the extradition documents for the arrest and deportation of Tauqeer Sadiq, the former chief of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and these documents would be handed over to the UAE government.

A two-member SC bench, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khwaja, heard the OGRA implementation case and the arrest of its former chief who was involved in a multi-billion scam.

Justice Khwaja inquired whether the arrest warrants of Sadiq were sent to the UAE officials or not.

NAB Prosecutor General KK Agha informed the court that he was not sure and had to check for it, however he added that NAB had already issued the warrants. He added that Sadiq would remain in detention in the UAE until February 27.

Justice Jawwad asked why the UAE government was hesitating in deporting Sadiq.

Khwaja Haris, amicus curiae of the case, informed the bench that the government should convey all the information regarding Sadiq to the UAE officials and should also take up this case at the official level.

He added that the government should also hire services of some legal adviser in the UAE.

Upon which, Agha said they were already considering hiring the services of a local legal adviser there in order to assist them.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Legal Director Azam Khan responded that the NAB was insisting in handing over Sadiq to them, rather than deporting him.

He said they also requested the UAE authorities to hand over Sadiq to Pakistani embassy in Dubai but they have yet to receive a reply.

Later, the court adjourned the case until February 26.
