LAHORE – Moonis Elahi, son of former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, visited the Federal Investigation Agency’s office in Lahore on Friday to record his statements in the National Insurance Company Limited scam.
However, the FIA officials refused to record Moonis’ statement and asked him to appear before the six-member investigation team tomorrow (Saturday) after 3pm as FIA Additional Director General Zafar Qureshi, heading the investigation team, was not in Lahore.
FIA official also told Moonis that the order of the court that had granted him a protective bail clearly stated that Moonis could appear before investigators after getting a pre-arrest bail. According to the officials, none of them had asked Moonis to visit the FIA office, adding that he had done so on his own.
Later, outside the FIA office Moonis told reporters that he had great respect for the law and the judiciary and had come to the FIA office to face the baseless charges trumpeted against him with the objective of besmearing his image.
He said he reached Lahore yesterday and had come to the FIA office the following day to record his statement. He said he had asked the FIA authorities to provide him with the FIR or any evidence against him so that he could answer to them properly but the FIA officials did not heed his demand.
To a question, Moonis said that he was a political personality and political players were behind the case, adding that they would be exposed soon.
