Chinese engineers will repair the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) buses that were damaged by the public on the opening day of the service, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The government also plans to ply all 45 buses on the road very soon, sources said, adding that 12 buses had developed faults and needed repair.
“People broke a few windows and jammed the articulators so the buses have to be sent for repairs,” a senior official said, adding that “If 286 passengers clog a bus with a capacity for only 150 the result is definitely not going to be positive. In case of such overloading the articulators get stuck and the brakes are automatically jammed.”
“The Chinese engineer will stay in the country for another month after the operation starts. The buses are under warranty however the government will have to pay the bill for the damages that are not covered, such as overloading,” he said.
CM’s Advisor on Transport Khwaja Hassan however said the government had signed a contract with the company with full warranty and cover for a period of one year. “Of the12 buses, 10 have been totally repaired already, while the other two will also ply the roads from today (Friday). All 45 buses will be on the roads very soon. The company is responsible for any and all repairs,” he said.
