LAHORE – The recent wave of rains and snowfall can be extremely beneficial for the agricultural sector especially the Rabi crops, weather experts said on Friday. Senior Met Office official Muhammad Akram told Pakistan Today that the recent rains can bring smiles on faces of our farmers and the wheat crop would benefit the most from the rains.
He said that snowfall would help increase water reservoirs while fruit trees especially apple would benefit from the snowfall. The Met Office said that the snowfall would help overcome water shortage in April, May and June. Experts said that authorities should use the rains and snowfall in an effective manner and electricity shortage could also be overcome by constructing more dams to increase hydropower generation, which is much cheaper than other sources of power generation.
Met Office officials said that scattered rain and thunderstorms with snowfall hit hilly areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) while isolated rain was witnessed in Upper Sindh. Lahore witnessed overcast conditions on Friday while the maximum and minimum temperature recorded in the provincial metropolis was 19 and 8 degrees Celsius.
Citizens expressed joy over the pleasant weather and said that it would nice to see Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in the World Cup during such pleasant weather.
