The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Monday adjourned the hearing of Dr. Tahirul Qadri’s petition regarding reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) till tomorrow (Tuesday).

Hearing the case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry raised a question about the nationality of Dr Qadri and legality of his petition being a dual nationality holder. Dr Qadri acknowledged that he was a citizen of Pakistan as well as Canada.

The CJ told Qadri that “under the Article 63 of the Constitution, you are barred from becoming a member of the Pakistani Parliament.”

Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Qadri said that for dual nationality holders there is no bar in the constitution to vote.

  1. A dual national can be faithful to Pakistan just as a CJ who legitimised military coup can become champion of democracy in Pakistan.

  2. "……..do not bother about who is saying it, listen to what he is saying…."
