Students and faculty and staff members from various educational institutions have been suffering due to the poor condition of AK Brohi Road in Sector H-11. A lane on the road has not been carpeted yet and the under-construction street has become a garbage dump for many residents in the area. Institutes like the International Islamic University (IIU), National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences-FAST, and Al-Huda International School are all situated on the road. The terrible condition of the road reflects the Capital Development Authority’s concern for problems faced by citizens. While the uncarpeted street is not a long one, it is indeed an important one, as many educational institutes are located on it.
Muhammad Waqar, a student of Electronics Engineering at the IIUI, told Pakistan Today, “One lane is not enough for such large traffic, and the road looks more like a bus stand during rush hour.” Around 20,000 students are currently enrolled at the IIU, he added. An Al-Huda International School official said, “The road needs to be properly constructed for students and parents who drop them at these institutes.” While the government spends millions on awareness campaigns to encourage cleanliness, the CDA appears to be oblivious to the situation of streets within the capital. Institutes that are frequented by national and international scholars, ambassadors, scientists and other icons are heralded by a street that looks more like a dump, said a student from FAST. Another female student from FAST said roads leading to our institutions need to be carpeted and properly built so we present a good impression to foreign and national delegates visiting our institutes.
