The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday issued notices to another 12 members of the Punjab Assembly for allegedly holding dual nationalities.
The notices were sent after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim presided over a high-level meeting and reviewed various matters, including the lawmakers’ dual nationalities and delimitation of constituencies in Karachi in light of Supreme Court’s orders.
On Tuesday, the ECP issued notices to 23 MPAs of the Punjab Assembly. Those served notices include 21 current and two former members of the provincial assembly (MPAs).
Fifteen of the 21 belong to the PML-N and four are from the PPP.
They include former MPAs Jameel Ashraf and Tahir Ali Javed and current MPAs Zaeem Qadri, Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Rana Babar Hussain, Farrukh Javed, Raza Ali Gilani, Pir Kashif Chishti, Imran Shaukat, Muhammad Yar Hiraj, Tahir Khalil Sindhu, Makhdoom Muhammad Irtiqa, Arfa Khalid Pervez, Maira Malik, Ghulam Sarwar, Imran Khalid, Shahjahan Ahmed Wattoo, Ali Haider Noor, Hafiz Mian Noman, Mohsin Lateef, Tariq Mehmood and Shamsheer Haider Wattoo. The SC had ruled in September last year that MNAs and MPAs holding dual nationalities were not eligible to hold any public office and had declared them disqualified.
