Gallup records citizen’s perceptions on social institutions

According to a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 45 percent of Pakistanis trust Non Governmental Organistaions (NGO), 74 percent expressed trust in Religious Leaders, 67 percent of the populace trust educational institutions and 66 percent of those sampled said that they trust the media entities operating in Pakistan.

In the survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked; ‘please tell us to what extent do you trust these institutions?” The findings of the survey suggest that NGOs are the least trusted sector with only 45 percent of people saying that they had high trust in NGOs, whereas 47 percent replied they did not.

Religious leaders were the most trusted with 74 percent people saying that they trusted them and only 22 percent said otherwise. Educational Institutions were the second most trusted category with 67 percent people saying they trusted them and 27 percent replying in the negative.

The results also indicated that media enjoys the trust of 66 percent of the populace and only 22 percent reckon that media is a farce.
