Punjab Police Acting Inspector General Khan Baig on Monday said police would not become a party during elections and could not be used in a political campaign.
Clarifying that the police would not support any political party during the elections, he said, “We will implement the rules and laws of the Election Commission”.
Baig said in order to provide security to the people the police was working to make investigation effective and efficient.
He said, “We have adopted an aggressive approach to control crime in the province because the defensive approach is not helpful”.
The IG said DPOs would monitor FIR’s themselves to provide justice to the people.
“The management of the metro bus system will decide about its security itself. Although Lahore police is providing security to the bus system at the present but arrangements have to be finalised in this regard,” he added.
He said the Punjab government was providing training and equipment to more than 100 police stations to modify and improve the behaviour of the police personnel which would help them serve people in a better way.
He said the crime rate was under controlled in all the districts of Punjab and people should appreciate the efforts of police.
He urged policemen to perform their duties with responsibility and ensure peace and the rule and law in the province.
Baig said police should not acquiesce to political pressure and should perform their duties with responsibility and honesty.
He said the old traffic police system was still in operation in small cities and could be launched again in big cities, if needed.
To a question, he said latest cameras would be installed in all districts of the province and a project had already been initiated to ascertain the feasibility of the system.
