ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday organized the ‘walk for a cause’ to kick start its spring tree plantation campaign. Starting from Saudi Pak Tower on Jinnah Avenue, and culminating at Faisal Avenue, the walk was led by CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi.
A large number of students, representatives of traders’ associations, members of civil society, ICT officials, police, environmentalists and CDA employees joined the walk. The environment wing of the civic body displayed posters and banners in different areas of the city, and distributed pamphlets, car stickers, paper bags and badges carrying motivational slogans.
The wing also established a number of kiosks where thousands of saplings were provided free of cost to augment the tree plantation campaign. CDA has planned to plant 500,000 saplings in different parts of the capital city during the campaign as a continuation of its ‘Green and Clean Islamabad’ drive launched 2008.
“Today’s ‘Green’ Islamabad is the outcome of laborious and consistent efforts made by CDA employees during the last 50 years in planting, protecting and nourishing trees in the capital,” said Elahi, while addressing participants of ‘walk for a cause.’
