LAHORE – Punjab Assembly leader of the opposition Chaudhry Zaheeruddin has issued show-cause notice on the house members elected on the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) tickets in 2008 with bicycle as their election symbol, and who have been disloyal to their original party to form a ‘Lota’ bloc (a bloc of turn coats).
Parliamentary leader of the Unification Bloc, PML-Q dissident group, Dr Tahir Ali Javaid, said Zaheeruddin had no authority to issue notices. According to a press release, Zaheeruddin said the next step will be filing of references with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the ‘turn coats’. The notices, served to 15 renegades, indicate that these members, after being awarded tickets by PML-Q President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, had breached trust by forming unification bloc.
The notice further states that these members had been meeting the chief minister for inclusion in the cabinet, and inquires how they could request the speaker to nominate one of them as the parliamentary leader and the opposition leader, while the authority lays with the party president.
