PESHAWAR – Expressing concern over the fresh wave of violence and terrorism in Peshawar and southern districts, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to call upon Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to convene a meeting of Strategic and Oversight Committee.
“The Strategic and Oversight Committee will be requested to introduce Malakand-like package for the security of Peshawar and southern districts,” remarked Mian Iftikhar Hussain while briefing media people about the cabinet decisions.
The Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa cabinet, at its meeting held with Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti in the chair, discussed in depth the existing law and order situation. At the outset of the meeting, Home and Tribal Affairs Secretary Arbab Arif and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa IGP Fayyaz Khan Toru briefed the cabinet on the law and order situation.
In 2009, more than 200 terrorist acts were registered throughout the province, which declined to 101 in 2010. However, in a period of three months, including December 2010, around 71 incidents of terrorism had occurred, the meeting was told.
