2,200 cops to perform security duties on Eid Milad-ul-Nabi (PBUH)

The Islamabad Police has chalked out an elaborate security plan for the main procession of Eid Milad-ul-Nabi on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal. Around 2,200 cops have been assigned to perform security duties, while strict patrolling will be ensured during the procession and other religious gatherings in the city.
According a police spokesman, police officials including Rangers and the personnel of other law enforcement agencies will perform patrolling and security duties on the occasion and the main procession would start from Sector G-7 and be completely cordoned off through heavy deployment.
He said the procession would be carried out from Sector G-7 (Sitara Market) and will culminate near the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Mehmud in Aabpara Market.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has also devised a special plan for the smooth flow of traffic to avoid inconvenience for road users.
Traffic SSP Moeen Masood would lead the ITP’s personnel on the occasion to ensure smooth traffic flow and divert traffic on alternate routes. He said that close liaison would be maintained with procession organisers in the city. The Bomb Disposal Squad would ensure technical sweeping on all routes and venues. Walk through gates would be installed on all entry points of the procession and metal detectors would be used to check participants and avoid any untoward incident.

PM advises president to grant special remission to prisoners

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has advised the president to grant special remission in the sentence of prisoners on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Rab-ul-Awal) falling on Feb 25 (Friday). This special remission will include:
i) Total remission to female prisoners who are 60 years of age or above and to male prisoners who are 65 years of age or above who have undergone at least one third of sentence of imprisonment.
ii) Special Remission of one year to female prisoners who have accompanying children.
iii) Total remission to juvenile convicts (under 18 years of age) who have served 1/3rd of their substantive sentence.
His remission will, however, not be applicable to the prisoners involved in such heinous crimes as terrorism, anti-state activities and culpable homicide.
