Residents living along the G-7 nullah on Wednesday requested authorities to check its cleanliness, as it was full of filth, silt and garbage. The nullah has marred the beauty of the location and stunk up the whole place, residents said. They said the nullah had become a garbage dump and created hurdles in the flow of rain water. This had caused the area to smell horribly, they added. Anwar Khan, a resident of the slum said once such nullahs contained clean water which people used for chores, now these nullahs have become mere garbage dumps.
Anwar urged the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to keep the nullahs clean to avoid health problems. Residents said the CDA had recently launched an anti-littering campaign that also included cleanliness of various nullahs.
Dr Sannatullah said residents living in areas near these nullahs had to take safety measures to avoid diseases. A CDA official said the authority had made efforts to keep the city clean, however this required cooperation from all quarters. He requested residents not to dump their garbage in the nullahs.
