The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said economic revival in the current year was not likely. The masses will have to experience three governments this year, the incumbent coalition will have to complete its term and will be replaced by a caretaker setup, the general elections will be held next and will bring about another government, PEW said.
PEW President Murtaza Mughal said that it would be unfortunate if the ruling party, that claimed to believe in continuity of democracy and reconciliation to cover its corrupt steps, came to power again as that would seal the fate of the country. The ruling party, which has been promoting corruption in the name of democracy at the cost of the country will lead Pakistan to total destruction if given another chance, he said.
Mughal said politicians usually blamed courts for obstructing revolutionary steps, but the masses know that without judicial intervention, the country would have already defaulted. He said Pakistan had only progressed in corruption and had invited international disgrace and lack of trust on the part of development partners
He added that the masses had seen two prime ministers, four finance ministers, six finance secretaries, four SBP governors, six FBR chairmen, and four planning commission deputy chairmen in the last five years. This clearly pointed towards lack of serious attitude, he said.
He said the rulers were responsible for pushing the government debt to Rs 1,300 trillion, forcing millions below the poverty line, promoting nobility, mismanaging energy crisis, delaying projects of national importance, failed revenue collection targets, dwindling rupee and reserves and flight of capital and industries.
Their reelection to office would be the last nail in the coffin for Pakistan, he said.
