Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has said the party was willing to consider seat adjustment with the PML-N, PTI and JUI-F at the provincial level for the upcoming election.
Talking to senior journalists on Monday, Hassan, however, did not see electoral alliance among the political parties at the national level.
He called upon all political parties to get united on a single point agenda of timely elections, as it was the only way to change and resolution of country’s problems.
The JI chief said the decision of the party to boycott the 2008 election was wrong, as the boycott provided space to other parties.
Hasan said not holding elections led to hatred and divide among the nation.
He said the JI had been supportive of implementation of Articles 62 and 63, but suggested that the political parties field such candidates that met the requirements of these articles.
Hassan regretted that parties awarded tickets to well-off and winning candidates and if the Election Commission fully implemented the two articles, it would create a lot of fuss. He said he would not even touch upon the issue of long march by Dr Tahirul Qadri, as it would mean giving importance to a person having no position.
However, he said Dr Qadri was able to gather enough people for the march despite harsh weather.
He said there was still an impression that some powers were behind Dr Qadri to organise the march with some specific objectives. The JI chief added that there was an impression that the US wanted to create violence and anarchy in Pakistan before withdrawal from Afghanistan in order to put the country’s nuclear programme under international control under the pretext of volatile security.

JI refuses to attend ANP’s all-parties conference

Peshawar: After the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Monday said they would not participate in the Awami National Party’s (ANP) all-parties conference. Advocate Israrullah, the spokesman for the JI, said after the meeting of the JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter it was decided that they would not take part in the proposed APC. “The Centre has also approved the decision that was taken in the meeting,” he added. Israrullah said the ANP was working on American agenda, adding that the party’s policies had increased terrorism. Earlier, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman had refused to participate in the APC being held by the AN P. Other major opposition parties, including the PML-N, are indecisive on whether to attend the APC, largely because they seem unconvinced that the conference would make any difference at this point in time. All the parties in the ruling coalition including the PPP, the MQM and the PML-Q have however accepted the invitation extended by the ANP but this support is being seen by the opposition parties as a political move in a bid to drive political mileage in the elections and to save the ruling coalition from public criticism over its failure to deliver in its five years’ rule.
