The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on Friday summoned Minhajul Quran International (MQI) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on February 5 and sought an explanation over violation of the oath he took while seeking asylum in Canada.

According to a private TV channel, RCMP said Qadri violated the oath stating that he was not allowed to enter the country he had sought asylum from.

The channel said Qadri had sought Canadian asylum under the name of Abdul Shakoor Qadri in 2008, fearing threats to his life from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) and Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan after he met the Danish cartoonist responsible for making blasphemous caricatures of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Qadri had filed the request along with his son Hussain Mohiuddin through his lawyer Mendel Green.

On October 17, 2009, his asylum application was accepted, while he was issued the Canadian passport about six months ago.

The MQI chief has also been receiving welfare funds from the Canadian government, citing health issues.

Qadri, who led a five-day-long march in Islamabad that concluded on Thursday evening, is currently in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Qadri returned to Lahore on Friday following his agreement with the government.

QADRI CLAIMS MARCH SUCCESSFUL:

Talking to reporters, Dr Qadri said the long march had been successful and congratulated the entire nation.

He said if the agreement signed with the government was not implemented, they reserved the right to take extreme measures.

The sit-in was ended by Qadri after an agreement was reached with the government on Thursday night. The agreement has been named “Islamabad Long March Declaration”.

A private news channel reported that Dr Qadri was leaving for Dubai on January 27 at 9am.

The date was set for holding a meeting in Lahore between the government team that signed the long march agreement and Qadri for taking up the matter of Election Commission’s reconstitution.

  1. Hats off for the great man who did splendid work to guide the nation. If local people dont have the guts to stand against tyrany then it is the duty of overseas pakistani to play their part. Corrupt and steryotyped media is to be blamed the non-governance of the current government.

  2. Qadri's march proved to be a storm in a tea cup, much ado about nothing. The way he hankered after, nay begged for, media attention reflects that he was tasked by some foreign agency to put up a show to justify the money he has been devouring for years. The fed govt. started and then stopped ferreting out his financial strings. The people need an explanation about why he staged the long march and agreed to a noneforceable agreement. Surely qadri is a liar, a paper tiger. Amjed Jaaved

    • Which people want what explanation? Is it for showing those people that we are a disciplined nation? Is it for standing up for them in this weather or is it for shutting up the likes of R Malik with his idiotic claims of terror attacks? Why did the likes of you were running into each other to meet his deadline. What face Kaira and Farooq Sattar had to appear before Dr.Qadri?Have you all gone so ….. I do not wish to say hoping you might reform your thinking and see the positives.

  3. Qadri obtained asylum in Canada on plea of threat to his life in Pakistan from talibaan. Understandable. He had given a fatwa against alqaeda jihaad and suicide bombings. But, if feels insecure in Pakistan what is he doing here? Surely his agent handler abroad wants he show results to justify the money he probably ate abroad.

  4. Qadri is a CONMAN, a foreign national who has pledged loyalty to Canada and sworn an oath pledging allegiance to sovereignty of Queen. Has he not betrayed his pledge and belief in sovereignty of Almighty?.

  5. Jaan bachi so lakhon paay (speaking for the nation as a whole, figuratively speaking of course);

Laut ke budhoo ghar ko aaey, or is it jaaey? (my urdu sucks!)

  7. The container was so cosy and warm that Mr. Qadri asked for removal of his chuga which was taken care by two ardalies while the crowd braved the chill of margalla hills. This is called andhe muqallid.
