Renowned International metal sculpture Amin Gulgee orchestrated another live performance at his gallery on Wednesday, when “Riwahyti: One Night Stand” brought together filmmakers, actors, architects, musicians, event managers and photographers to do a creative and interactive live performance on the selected theme.
“Staging performances has been a part of my art practice. For this particular event, I have included plastic artists as well as musicians, filmmakers, actors, architects and people associated with fashion in the entire creative process. Performance is very much part of our lives in South Asia as births, marriages and deaths are all considered as public events,” Amin Gulgee said. Guests were amused by the 21 beautifully presented performances which took place simultaneously in different parts of Gulgee’s gallery. The highlight of the evening was the Red Carpet event managed by “Catwalk Production” and was based on the famous quote of Anday Warhol, “In the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes.” The concept of the red carpet event was to create a composition that would make everybody feel like a star. The presence of a photographer, media wall, camera crew and audience made the experience even more real and enjoyable for the participants. The black umbrella theme, orchestrated by Muzzumil Ruheel proved to be very interesting for the guests as he tagged along with guests with a black umbrella in his hand, depicting forced relationships people make to achieve their hidden agendas. Furthermore, Angeline Malik gave a performance on the theme titled “With Oneself”. She could watch herself on a projector while performing different scenes from a bystander’s point of view.
Meanwhile, other performances included Fayaz Agariah’s “Paraphernalia”, Danish Raza’s “Sacrifice & Surrogates”, Ayesha Toor’s “Chuup!”, Ayessha Quraishi’s “The Sensual Orchestra Plays Live”, Nimra Bucha’s “Swimming Pool”, Izdeyar Setna’s “Stand Still”, Sikander Mufti’s “Off-the-Shelf Box Frequency”, Syed Ammad Tahir’s “Mirror Mirror on the Wall”, Irfan Hasan’s “Performing Self-Portrait”, Danyal Sadiq’s “Soundscapes”, Babar Sheikh’s “The New Wave”, Ahsan Jamal’s “The Art that Makes My Living”, Raania Azam Khan’s “Mystery Nivala”, Muhammad Ali’s “Happy Endings” and Affan Baghpat’s “Untitled” .
The event was attended by Saqib Malik, Deepak Perwani, Rukaiya Adamjee, Tara Mehmood, writer Muhammad Hanif, Ayaz Anis, Zurrain Imam, Tara Uzra Dawood, Durraid Siddiqi, Obaid Sheikh, Shanaz Ramzi, Aamna Isani and many more who appreciated the performance of the artists.
