GC students visit the Supreme Court

A 35-member delegation of students of Government College University visited the Supreme Court on Thursday. The delegation visited the court rooms, court library, ceremonial halls and the monument in front of Supreme Court building. They also attended court room proceedings. The delegation called on Justice Jawwad Khawaja, who said that it was the job of the media to ensure accuracy in reporting and to inform, educate and guide citizens. He also stressed on the need for objective reporting and urged the media to play a positive role in the society. Encouraging the students, Justice Khawaja that media had been entrusted with the task of discovering facts and said that young journalists should actively pursue the truth. He also apprised the students about his recent judgment in Hamid Mir and others vs Federation of Pakistan case. He outlined the terms of reference and formulated a two-member commission headed by Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Javed Jabbar, a renowned journalist. The students of the university said that the efforts and commitments of judges of the Supreme Court for the cause of constitutionalism were unprecedented.
