The country’s opposition parties on Wednesday expressed their resolve to curb any unconstitutional step and demanded the Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government announce a date for general elections and caretaker setup immediately.
Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf thanked the opposition leaders for their support and called a meeting of coalition partners to discuss the political scenario today (Thursday). Addressing a news conference after a meeting of opposition leaders in and outside parliament at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif’s Raiwind resident, the leaders reiterated that change must come through free and fair elections. Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz demanded the government announce the date for the general elections as well as the caretaker setup. He said those creating hurdles in the way of people’s mandate would be stopped. The PML-N chief said the leadership of political parties had reposed full confidence in the Election Commission. He said Chief Election Commissioner Fakharuddin G Ebrhaim had been nominated with consensus. Nawaz said all national issues should be resolved within the constitutional parameters, adding that consultations would continue for holding free and fair elections on time.
He said the government should introduce electoral reforms as directed by the Supreme Court. Nawaz also questioned Dr Tahirul Qadri’s demand for removal of president.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Fazlur Rehman said Qadri was flouting the constitution. “Qadri is J Salik for Muslims,” he mocked.
To a question, Fazl said he did not know what forces were backing the TMQ leader, but said he was being backed nonetheless. Addressing the news conference, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan leader Sahibzada Awais Noorani said the long march should end at the earliest.
JI chief Syed Munawwar Hassan said protests would be launched across the country if elections were not held on time. PkMAP chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai said some people were resorting to unconstitutional activities and any infringement of the constitution would result in disintegration of the federation. Leader of the National Party Hasil Bizenjo said the government should announce the schedule of the next general elections.
Earlier, the opposition parties’ meeting convened by the PML-N agreed to resolve all national issues within the domain of the constitution.
The meeting reposed full confidence in the Election Commission and stressed that the Commission should not be made controversial.
It also expressed serious concerns on the incidents of violence in Balochistan‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Karachi and the Tribal Areas and called upon the government to take steps for the protection of the lives and properties of the people.
PTI REFUSES TO JOIN SIT-IN: Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has announced that his party would not take part in Dr Qadri’s sit-in in Islamabad. The PTI said a decision had been made to support democratic forces in the country.
Presiding over a meeting of the Political Strategy Committee of the PTI on Wednesday, Khan said immediate fair and free elections under a neutral caretaker government was the only way out of crises the country was facing today.
“Early elections have become even more imperative because of the constitutional crisis in Balochistan, deteriorating law and order situation, Indian aggression visible on the Line of Control and a deep sense of anger in the nation because of inflation, unemployment, load shedding of electricity and gas and closure of CNG stations.”
He said a virtual genocide of the Shia community, the bodies in Peshawar and the continuing killings in Karachi were manifestations of the terrible state of affairs in the country. “These tragedies can only be mitigated by fresh mandate through fair and free elections,” Khan added.
The Political Strategy Committee expressed its apprehension that there would be a ‘muk-muka’ during the formation of the caretaker government and warned that any collusion would be resisted through the power of the people. The meeting also took note of Nawaz Sharif’s press conference in which he said that he did not agree with PTI’s demand of resignation of President Asif Ali Zardari.

Forces against extra-electoral agents must unite together …

deprived and poor on one side and habitual rulers and looters on other side!
Just look at them. No wonder Pakistan is going places………………………………….. NOT.
All these bast.rds together look so innocent…qadri must and can f..k them all but must spare mighty khan….
All these politicians (good for noting) are scared now, because someone has challenged the system where they were enjoying the lootings turn by turn.
Did they ever in the last 5 years all come together like this for 16 hours load shedding, unemployment, inflation, terrorism, drone attacks, fake degrees, non compliance of SC orders????????????

Rafique I 10000% agree with you. these people are at one place to save the status Que they ave developed . and want to maintain at any cost. shame on these people that Qadri have gathered them at one place.
They all are coward leaders of Pakistan never stand up against Marshal-law, either they have ran away from the country or made deals with the dictators, now they have lost their credibility in the public, they have never get united, when people or getting suffered from terrorism, dying 100s of us every day, never they unite against innocents killed by drone attacks, never they unite when people standing in large ques for CNG,petrol, food and others, neither they have given cover to people effected from floods and natural disasters, never they get together against unemployment, neither they get together for inflation that is increased in the prices 200%, whole the pakistan got electricity only for 8-10 hours out of 24 hours, and many ares has lesser this ratio. look at the way our leaders talk at national and international media they don't know how to express the feeling of Pakistan to international forum, that is why Pakistanis respect is going down round the globe, who is responsible for all this.
ok lets not protest against these corrupt leaders can any one give assurity that next government elected by this system will remove the unemployment, the large lines from CNG stations, other lots of problems, never, it is the system where no political party will give ticket to the person, who is poor but true leader, they will give election ticket to a person who can pay them party fund in billions and is a gunda badmash of the area…much more to write but these culprits r united together to protect their system. i m never , and never be in favor of Qadiri but im in favor of those innocent people of Pakistan who have patience to bear all the dishonesty and problems created by the government. i also encouraged their spirit (in the future) that they will bear all the troubles and all the their economic, cultural, unemployment, corruption and all others worries led by next governments but will never say any word, and never come out to roads for the accountability of their brave leaders.
It was inevitable ……… The thieves will be joined by those in waiting. What is appalling is Imran's misplaced understanding of what is democratic and what is not. These or the ones in power are not the democratic forces; the ones sitting on consitution avenue braving this weather ARE !
All idiots are at same place & planing how to rip public, dont be a fool & reject these old tested corrupt so called democracy champions .
deprived and poor on one side and habitual rulers and looters on other side!
Public in general has welcome the display of unity by all political parties – infact its time for the Qadri-Brigrade to March-back to their barracks (i.e. Madrassahs). Qadri-supporters must understand that stomach can only be filled from mouth and Qadri is asking to fill their stomach from the *b*o*t*t*o*m* *h*o*l*e* – that's why he says we don't use *lotas*.
