Senator Faisal Raza Abidi tendered his resignation as a member of the Upper House of parliament to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at the Bilawal House on Wednesday. Abidi’s resignation is widely being attributed to the former senator’s covert differences with the party leadership ever since his tirade against the chief justice of Pakistan, whom he accused of having a hand in his son, Arsalan Iftikhar’s, involvement in graft cases. The firebrand Abidi had later received a show-cause notice from the ruling PPP for violating the party discipline, which ultimately cost him his membership of the PPP’s Core Committee. Abidi was elected member of the Senate from the PPP in 2009. He also served as the Karachi division president of the PPP but later resigned from his post after the government’s coalition partner, MQM demanded his removal, saying his presence was harmful for the relationship of the two parties. The resignation received at Bilawal House was yet to be submitted to the Senate secretary.
