Fuel is being stolen from the vehicles of Albayrak (a Turkish company) with the involvement of the Lahore Waste Management Company (LMWC) officials, Pakistan Today learnt on Wednesday.
A source in the LWMC said the Environment Protection Department (EPD) has sealed the fuel depot near the dumping site of the LWMC on Ring Road. The Turkish company officials used to park their vehicles at Malik Manzoor Oil Agency.
The company has 60 machines, including mini-dumpers, mechanical sweepers and washing vehicles.
The company says, “Our aim is to achieve true sustainability. We must reduce our garbage index that which we permanently throw away into the environment that will not be naturally recycled for reuses to near zero. So rather than abusing our own land with heap of waste we must get over it and act as a responsible citizen and must look after our planet as it’s our only home.” The Turkish company has been ordered to extend operations in other cities of Punjab. The company is also going to provide services in Amritsar (India).
Talking to Pakistan Today, LMWC Operational Manger Asif Iqbal said, “We had information before, but we were not sure about it. Now we caught red-handed and we will take strict action against those who are involved in such activity.”
He also said, “When our team members reached Malik Manzoor Oil Agency the rival party quarreled with them. We registered an FIR in local police station against the agency owner.”
Environment Protection Department (EPD) District Officer Younis Zahid said, “On the orders of Lahore DCO Noorul Amin Mengal we sealed the warehouse and registered an FIR against the agency owner.”
