UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) programme has been revived in Pakistan due to the joint efforts of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and UNESCO. The MAB is an intergovernmental programme aimed to set a scientific base for the improvement of the relationship between people and their environment. MAB’s first meeting was held at MoST and was chaired by MAB National Chairman Akhlaq Ahmed Tarar. The meeting was attended by 23 members from provincial forest and wildlife departments, the Ministry of Climate Change, MoST, UNESCO, PSF, Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The federal secretary appreciated PSF Chairman Dr Manzoor Soomro’s efforts for reviving the MAB programme and enabling the National MAB Committee to function after a long period of dormancy.
